The Andalusia Youth Football League will hold sign-ups for the upcoming 2019 Football Season May 13th and 16th from 5:30 p.m., until 7:00 p.m., at the Johnson Park Gymnasium. For those not familiar with the Johnson Park Gym, it is located at 706 Carson Street Andalusia, Al 36420. Registration is for both football players and cheerleaders who will be between the ages of 5 years old and 12 years old on August 1, 2019.

AYFL President Nichole Appleyard encourages parents of football players to make sure and register early as there is a 35-player limit per age division. “Once we reach the 35 player number in each division, we place the remainder of those who sign up on a waiting list. If we have someone who decides not to play prior to jerseys being ordered, we use that list to add to our current rosters. It truly is first come – first serve,” said Appleyard.

Earlier this month, the AYFL announced the joining of a different youth football conference, the Escambia River Conference. Appleyard believes this move will improve the level of competition AYFL will face, going forward. “Our board of directors and coaching staff are all looking forward to being a part of ERC. We want to make sure we put the very best product on the field in both cheer and football so we represent Andalusia well.”

The cost of signing up a player or cheerleader is $60.00. Either check or cash is accepted. Payment is due at sign-ups. Appleyard added there are fundraising opportunities for those in need of financial assistance. If any parent is in need of assistance, someone will be available at signups to explain further.

There are also a number of opportunities for parents or community members to volunteer with the AYFL. “AYFL is an independent, nonprofit organization not affiliated with the City of Andalusia. Although we work very closely with the Andalusia Department of Leisure Services and are allowed to use their facilities to practice and play, we are 100 percent self-funded.  To accomplish that, we operate with a large number of volunteers. I would encourage anyone interested to ask how they can get involved and help.”

The age divisions for AYFL are: Seniors (Ages 11-12); Juniors (Ages 9-10); Sophomores (Ages 7-8); and Freshmen (Ages 5-6). League age is determined by the age of your player or cheerleader on August 1 of the current season.
