The Pleasant Home Youth Football League had a large turnout for their summer football and cheerleader camp at Pleasant Home School.

“We were worried we wouldn’t have many kids show up with it being summer, but we were very blessed to have the turn out we did,” Marcus Laster said. “We had a lot more kids sign up, which is another blessing considering what happened to the league.”

Laster said the league is making some changes.

“We have all new board members who are doing all we can to give this program a new image,” Laster said. “This camp also gave the coaches and players a chance to meet and get some knowledge about one another.”

Laster said he believes the camp was a success.

“In my eyes, this camp was a huge success,” Laster said. “We have put a great staff together this year.”

This season, Laster said he believes the program can turn around.

“I feel we can turn this program around,” Laster said. “We can overcome all the obstacles we are faced with.”

Laster said the team will have a new look this year as well.

“We also go new decals for our helmets,” Laster said. “The kids are excited about it and can’t wait to play in them.”

Practice will begin next week, but Laster said they will still take sign ups.

“We will take sign ups until school starts back,” Laster said. “We will start practice on July 15.”

Laster said they are looking forward to starting the season.

“I think it will be an exciting season for us,” Laster said. “This year we added three new teams to our league (Samson, Luverne and Highland Home). That will give us some new faces.”

Laster said he hopes the camp put a spark back into the program.

“I believe this camp helped us spark this program,” Laster said. “Hopefully, get the moral back up.”
