The Andalusia Bulldogs (1-2, 0-1) are looking to bounce back as they prepare to take on the Monroe County Tigers (1-1, 0-1) tonight in Monroeville.

“This group has probably done as well as any group I’ve been associated with as far as taking mistakes from one Friday night to the next and improving on those,” Andalusia head coach Trent Taylor said. “This week was no different. I think Tuesday was about as good of a football practice that I’ve been associated with in a long time. Tuesday is our full pad day and it was some kind of hot. We had about 40 kids that just got done playing a JV football game the night before. They got out there and went about their business and I feel like we got better.”

Preparing for Monroe County is not different than any other opponent.

“The situation this week is no different than any other week to be quite honest with you,” Taylor said. “You always look at other teams’ schemes offensively and defensively. At this point in the year, you are more concerned about yourself and the execution than you are with what the other team is doing. The truth of the matter is you go from one week to the next, just about everybody is doing the same thing offensively. Defensively you might see a different front or fit, but teams are either in an even or odd fun. You point out their play makers, but it’s more about focusing on us.”

Taylor said he has been pleased with the effort this week.

“We had a good week of practice,” Taylor said. “To have the energy that they had in the heat that we had, that told me a lot about these young me. They are determined. Even though the game didn’t turn out the way we wanted it to last Friday night. There weren’t a lot of people who got in their vehicles and headed to Mobile that gave us much of a shot of winning the football game. Had we done what we needed to a do a few plays, we had good shot of taking that game into overtime. Give UMS credit. They made the plays when they needed too and we did not. Obviously, that’s an area we need to improve on and we worked hard on doing that this week. I think we will see that on Friday night. It’s all about making small steps each week.”

Andalusia and Monroe County are set for a 7 p.m., kickoff tonight in Monroeville.

Andalusia won last year’s contest 48-0.
