We have a big problem dealing with stray animals in our neighborhood. At this time, there are at least three grown dogs and some puppies.

Over a year ago, someone dropped off a large black dog and her pups. Animal control managed to catch the puppies, but the mother dog got away. Time and time again they’ve tried to catch her and other dogs that show up. They have set traps several times; some traps have been stolen and some have been sabotaged.

The mother dog, once a healthy animal, is now scrawny, hardly able to get around. I have not seen her in a couple of weeks. She is probably lying in the woods either dead or almost dead.

I recently saw a man stop his pickup on Prestwood Bridge Road, near the old Wal-Mart building, and drop off some dogs. He could have taken them to the dog pound. They do not charge a fee for your dogs or cats. When you throw away your pet, it will eventually be caught and taken to the pound (unless it starves to death first).

The animal shelter tries to find someone to adopt your pet before it has to be put to sleep. That is a lot more humane than letting it starve to death.
