After six years as a Southern gospel singing group, “Fresh Anointing” is returning to the place where it all began.

Fresh Anointing will have a free reunion concert Sun., Nov. 30, at 6 p.m. at Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle. The group originally began at the church, when then-youth pastor David Wiggins invited nine members of his youth group to join a singing ensemble.

Fresh Anointing currently has three members — Wiggins, Michael Frank and Casey Williams. However, Sunday’s concert will be a chance for the original members of the group to return once again to the place where they got their start.

“I was a youth pastor at Andalusia Full Gospel Tabernacle,” Wiggins said. “We got together nine young people, ages 14 to about 21, and we started singing and were getting some response to go to other churches and sing. We got started and took the name ‘Fresh Anointing’ and things kind of progressed from there.”

The original 10 members of the group, all of whom have been invited to the concert, are Wiggins, Frank, Gabriel Bess, Mindy Hunt, Kim Norris, Jeremy Bond, Kevin Bond, Jazmin Pettis Griggs, Brandy Godwin Bond and Stacey Smith Frank. Others who have helped with the group in some respect are Williams, Lisa Wiggins, Robynn Wiggins, Bobo Matthews, Alicia Riley Frank, Brenda Henderson and Matthew Lloyd.

“It was six years ago, Nov. 2, that we did our first weekend traveling to Clayton, Alabama,” Wiggins said. “We got asked to sing and travel more and more. But being young people, different ones had to go off to school, off to college and pursue different ministries. So, it kind of got narrowed down and the group has changed over the years to what it is today.”

Fresh Anointing is currently signed with Paradigm Music Group and has a No. 42 song on the Christian Voice charts — “Glory Came Down.” Wiggins says the group played 125 dates during the past year, with most of those over weekends. He added that the group has traveled as far as North Carolina and Virginia and all over the Southeast.

“It’s hard to travel with a large large group, so we’ve kind of moved in the direction of this smaller group,” Wiggins said. “Right now we do media and recorded music for our performances, but in the future we’d like to get a band to travel with us.”

The group will be joined at its reunion concert by a special friend, Nashville comedian and songwriter Aaron Wilburn, who has appeared in the “Gaither Homecoming” video series. Wiggins said Wilburn is “the Christian version of a Jeff Foxworthy-type comedian.”

“He’s a great singer himself,” Wiggins said. “He’s been a good friend of ours, helping to grow our ministry. He’s just going to stop by some that night and share a little with us.”

Wiggins said he has wanted to be a traveling Christian performer his entire life and hopes that Fresh Anointing can become a full-time profession in the near future. Currently, the members of the group travel on the weekends and then spend the week at home, usually attending their local churches on Wednesday night.

“This has been my calling and dream since I was about 12 years old,” he said. “I spent over seven years as a youth pastor, and I guess maybe that was just God getting me ready to go out and be ready to minister abroad to a large group of people. He’s blessed me with my heart’s desire, which is being able to go around the country and share the gospel through music.”

It’s a ministry that Wiggins has been able to enjoy with his family. His wife, Lisa, helps with sound and stage set-up, and his 14-year-old daughter, Robynn, occasionally sings as well.

“Our main goal with Fresh Anointing is to see people come to know the Lord,” Wiggins said. “And that’s something that we see on a weekly basis. We just want everybody to come out Sunday night and have a good time. Just come out and recap some of the memories with us from the past six years.

“We’re going to have videos, some slide shows, each one of the original members is going to come back and we’re going to do some medleys of songs that we did when we first got started as a group.”
