The Andalusia Police Department was able to clear one burglary, one theft, four vehicle break-ins and a shoplifting case with the arrest of a Mont-gomery man Mo-nday.

Sgt. Jody Scott of the And-alusia Police Depar-tment said officers first came into contact with Deon Levon Thomas, 24, Monday after receiving a call about shoplifting at the Kangaroo gas station, which is located on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Expressway and East Three Notch Street.

“During the arrest, evidence was discovered that implicated Thomas in the theft of a vehicle that had occurred the night before,” Scott said. “Thomas was interviewed a few hours later at the Andalusia Police Department, where he confessed to taking the vehicle stolen earlier and to breaking into four other vehicles in an attempt to steal them.”

The vehicles were parked in the lot of a local apartment complex.

Scott said officers were already investigating the breaking and entering of four vehicles in the same neighborhood the vehicle had been stolen from.

Scott said during further questioning, Thomas confessed to committing a March 30th burglary on Brooks St in Andalusia.

Thomas was charged with first-degree theft of property of automobile, four counts of unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, third-degree burglary, third-degree theft of property and the misdemeanor charge of shoplifting.

Thomas is currently being held in the Covington County Jail on an $80,000 bond.
