City approves #036;1 ticket tax for theatre

The City of Greenville approved an ordinance imposing a $1 tax per ticket sold by any motion picture theatre inside the city limits.

The ordinance was part of the original incentives package promised by the city to NAOS Entertainment, which is building the Edge Theatre on I-65. The proceeds of that tax shall be retained by NAOS until after seven years. The city shall then receive twenty-five cents from the surtax, while the company shall retain seventy-five cents.

In other business the council:

Approved an amendment of the city's code to include a business license schedule for motion picture theatres in Greenville. License for a &#8220motion pictures, theatres, drive-ins, recording and sound studios, etc.” will cost $300 annually plus an additional .75 cents of gross receipts in excess of $100,000, according to the amended ordinance.

Approved the following expenditures: $2,910 to Trailer Life Directory for 2008 Trailer Life Directory advertisement and Good Sam Camping Club membership dues for Sherling Lake Park and Campground.
