Everyone is encouraged to mark the calendar now for May 11th and 12th as the Crenshaw County Rodeo will present its 20th annual rodeo in Luverne.

It will be held at the Tom Harbin Ag Center on Airport Road in Luverne and will begin at 7:30 p.m. each night.

This year's rodeo will once again be sanctioned by the Professional Cowboys' Association and will be produced by Bo Campbell Rodeo Productions.

Crenshaw County Rodeo is sponsored by the Luverne Kiwanis Club and the Crenshaw Saddle Club.

All rodeo proceeds go directly back into the county through numerous civic functions.

One such example is &#8220Operation Santa Claus,” where rodeo proceeds were donated to the Crenshaw County Department of Human Resources. With that money, 100 bikes were bought and given to deserving children in the community this past Christmas.

&#8220One of the main reasons we do this rodeo each year is to raise money for our kids,” John Harrison, Luverne Kiwanis Club member, past president and Rodeo Planning Committee chairman, said. &#8220I want all of the kids in Crenshaw County to have a bike.”

Harrison said that next year, he hoped the Luverne Kiwanis Club would be able to donate 125 bicycles to DHR for Christmas presents.

This year's rodeo will feature a full slate of rodeo events and will conclude each night with everyone's favorite, bull riding. Providing the clown entertainment this year will be David &#8220Slim” Weeks who has a variety of highly entertaining and comical arena acts.

&#8220We hope everyone will come out not only to enjoy the rodeo, but also to know their money is going to a very worthy cause- our children,” Harrison said.
