After winning only one game over the last three years, the McKenzie Tigers already have two wins midway through the 2006 season, but that is not enough for head coach Miles Brown.

The wins have been good for the Tigers but the way McKenzie has responded following those wins is the furthest thing from good.

Following the season's first win at Kinston, the Tigers were blown out at Pleasant Home. Following the win over Zion Chapel two weeks ago, the Tigers were blown out Friday by Class 2A Goshen.

&#8220When you don't block and you don't tackle, you get beat,” Brown said. &#8220We, once again, didn't play McKenzie-brand football so this week we got back to fundamentals and our kids really responded.”

Although each region game and each team on the Tigers' schedule has presented a challenge, this week's opponent, the No. 1 ranked Brantley Bulldogs, presents the ultimate challenge.

&#8220Those kids believe they can win, probably because they've been doing it for about 14 years now,” Brown said of Brantley.

Brown said he hopes that McKenzie can one day be the program that Brantley has become.

&#8220We have to keep working hard day in and day out and keep believing in the course of action we are taking,” Brown said.

The Bulldogs, which allowed the first points of the season to be scored on them Friday night, have dominated opponents and Brown said his team must rise to occasion.

Like WWE wrestler Ric Flair always says, &#8220To be the man, you have to beat the man.”

&#8220(A win) would be huge,” Brown said. &#8220It is a challenge we are issuing to our kids.”

Kickoff for Friday's game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
