Tonight 11 young women from schools across the county will compete at the Greenville High School Auditorium to earn valuable scholarship monies and the title of Butler County's Junior Miss. The event gets underway at 7 p.m.

This year's fun theme is &#8220Cruisin' into the ‘50s with Junior Miss.” The senior high girls have been hard at work, &#8220sweatin' to the oldies” each night this week as they rehearsed opening numbers, fitness and self-expression routines and talent presenations.

Kathryn Sanford of McKenzie High School, Elisa Campbell and Laura Tucker of Fort Dale Academy, and Brittany Byrd, Meghan Branum, Carmen Bozeman, LaVeda Cleare, Kris Ferguson, Nancy Johnson, Leslie Palmer and Kari Rogers of Greenville High will all be vying for the coveted medallion of Butler County's Junior Miss.

The girls will be judged in the areas of talent, interview, scholastics, fitness and self-expression.

Category awards will be presented tonight for the contestant most exemplifying the &#8220Spirit of Junior Miss” (the winner being chosen by the girls themselves), and

&#8220Be Your Best Self” Award, given for the most outstanding essay on that topic.

There will also be awards for the top performers in talent, scholastics, fitness and self-expression.

&#8220The girls have been working hard and doing great. We're proud of them all and encourage everyone to come out and support them tonight,” Lori Cummings, choreographer for the production, said.

The annual event is once again being sponsored by the members of the Camellia City Junior Woman's Club. Tickets will be available at the door for $5.
