Daniel and Rachel Brooks celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on August 6, 2006 with a buffet reception at Mount Eager Missionary Baptist Church in Washburn, Tenn.

The reception was hosted by their children, Susan Brooks Dotson and Melinda Brooks Buck, all former residents of Greenville.

Dan is the son of Herschel and Tessie Brooks.

Rachel is the daughter of the late Birchus and Lucille Watson.

The couple married on August 3, 1956 in Columbus, Ga.

They moved to Greenville after the birth of their first daughter in 1960.

Dan owned and operated Brooks Garage on the Greenville By-Pass. Rachel was employed by Greenville Bank and Alabama Power Company.

They were active members of Southside Baptist Church during the pastorships of Ed Ruddick, Jerry Haley and Herbert Brown.

The couple moved to Washburn in 1994 to be near their children. Dan and Rachel are now retired, and enjoy spending time with their two grandchildren, Robert and Christina Buck.
