Ian Blake Oswald, 19 months, who is the son of Greenville native Tony Oswald underwent surgery Wednesday, with the outcome looking positive.

Ian underwent surgery at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Arizona to have two large tumors on his brain removed that have been causing approximately 100 seizures per day. Dr. Harold Rekate started the operation at 10:30 a.m.

Arizona time and finished up at approximately 1:30 p.m.

His mother Dyan Grant, reported to other media that the doctor was able to get everything.

A few weeks ago, his father, reported that his son suffered from two brain tumors, called hypothalamic hamartomas that caused him to have more than 100 seizures a day.

After spending an hour in recovery, Ian was reunited with his parents.

Now, they’ll spend the next few days watching him for signs of short-term memory loss and other symptoms, but if all goes well, he’ll return home on Feb. 4.

Oswald said last week, his son’s doctors were concerned because on Ian’s MRI the tumors appeared all gray.

There appeared to be no visible boundary of where the tumors ended and the brain tissue began.

However, once surgeons got inside, they found there was a barrier and were able to get everything.
