Opp Bobcats defeat Bulldogs, 62-45

Opp ran out to an early lead and held on down the stretch for a 62-45 win last night against the Andalusia Bulldogs in varsity boys action.

Opp went on top with a run early in the game outscoring Andalusia from the opening tip off. The Bobcats held an 18-6 lead when the first period came to a close.

In the second quarter, Opp outscored Andalusia 17-15 but the first-quarter explosion gave the Bobcats a 35-21 lead at the half.

After the break, the Bobcats went on a 12-6 run in the third quarter to stretch the lead to 20 points.

Opp was on top 47-27 going into the fourth quarter. In the final stanza, Opp scored 15 points while allowing 18 but had a big enough lead to claim a 62-45 win.

Emanuel Lane paced Opp with 19 points. Alphonso Harris added 12 points to go with 10 rebounds in his final game against the Andalusia Bulldogs. Harris is the only senior on the Bobcats. Mariel Mount added 10 points.

Also scoring for the Opp Bobcats were Rhett Barnes, Tyrell Hunter, Sanches Stephens, Daniel Coleman and Holt Parker.

Brandon Wilson was the leading scorer for Andalusia with 16 points. He was the only Bulldog to reach double figures in scoring.

Also scoring for Andalusia were Josh Johnson, Lance Evans, Andrew McTyere, Michael Cauley, D'Andre Wright, Andrae Wright and Chris Cotton.

The girls game was the complete opposite.

The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs built an early lead against Opp and held on for a 69-34 win.

The Lady Bulldogs held a 22-8 lead after one period of play.

A 21-12 run in the second quarter gave Andalusia a 43-20 lead at the halftime intermission.

The Lady Bulldogs continued to outscored Opp in the second half with a 16-10 run in the third quarter for a 59-30 lead.

In the final period, Andalusia scored 10 points to Opp's 4 for a 69-34 win.

Ann Huff scored 15 points for Andalusia in the win. Kathy Crittenden scored 11 points. Apri Kilgore hit for 10.

Also scoring for Andalusia were Rachel Jones, Ashley Johnson, Jamilia Couch, Tanesha Wright, April Daniels, Whitney Leslie, Breanna Cross and Jermecia McNeil.

Opp's leading scorer was Trinity Osborn with 11 points. Also scoring for Opp were Natasha Archie, Kiara Henderson, Sasha Musgrove, Ashley Mock and Kim Crittenden.

Andalusia won the B-team game edging out Opp by a final score of 42-38.

Andalusia had a small 10-8 lead after one quarter of play and was on top 23-19 at the half.

The B-team Bulldogs opened up the lead in the third quarter with a 14-9 run.

Opp rallied in the fourth period to trim the lead down to four points, but ran out of time as Andalusia held on for the win.

William Alverson scored 20 points for the Bulldogs in the win. Also scoring for Andalusia were Alex Taylor, Kevin Huff, Jacob Cauley, Tyler Centner and Cherno Bah.

Opp's leading scorer was Demaril Smith with 13 points.

Also scoring for the B-team Bobcats were Bryan Tillis, Danshae Edwards, Janico Mount, Zach Banks, Torshawn Brooks and Jacob Nawlin.

All three Andalusia teams return to action on Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Gulf Shores for a Class 4A, Area 1 game. The B-team game tips off the action at 4:30 p.m.

Opp plays Daleville in an important Class 4A, Area 3 match-up on Friday. The games will be played in Opp beginning with the B-team game at 4:30 p.m.
