In the championship game of the Mizell Memorial Hospital Christmas Tournament at Florala High School, the Lady Wildcats of Florala clawed their way to a victory over the Ariton Lady Purple Cats 38-29.

In the first period of play, the Lady Wildcats leapt to an 11-5 lead with Latoya Wilson leading the charge with six points.

For the Purple Cats,

Breana Daniels was a high spot as she nailed a shot from three-point land.

In the second period, the Lady Wildcats kept their claws out and their feet moving as six different players each scored. Wilson scored another four points in the period, with Darlene Aguigui adding four of her own as well.

For the ladies from Ariton, Starria Baxter added three points thanks to some accurate shooting from the free-throw line. Lindsey Sanders also contributed for the Lady Purple Cats, nailing a three-pointer and another two-point shot.

It wasn't enough though as the girls in Green and White from Florala took a halftime lead of 27-15.

In the third, Ariton came on the attack, with seven points to the Lady Wildcats five points. At the end of three, Florala led 32-22.

In the fourth, Florala netted three baskets for six points, with Ariton finding the basket three times, including one three-pointer.

Again, Florala held tough and took the victory 38-29.

For the Wildcats, Wilson had 12 points, with Brittney Carson contributing eight. For Ariton, Tasha Johnson had eight, with Daniels leading the team with nine.

In the consolation game earlier in the day, the Lady Eagles of Pleasant Home squared off against the Lady Rebels of Rehobeth High School in what many would call the best game of the day.

The Ladies from Pleasant Home jumped out to an early 11-2 lead in the first period of play, but the Rebels came charging back in the second to score ten points to the Eagles five.

At the half, PHS held a slim 15-12 lead.

In the third the Rebels kept the pressure on as they drew the game to within two points, ending the third with PHS hanging on to a 33-31 lead.

In the fourth, things got out of hand for the Eagles as Rehobeth was able to tie the game at the end of regulation 43-43.

In overtime, the Lady Eagles righted the ship and took flight to gain a 55-47 win over Rehobeth.

For Pleasant Home Jessica Bryant and Heather Little led the team with 12 points apiece, with Amy Jacobs and Jessica Johns each adding 10 apiece.

For Rehobeth, Angie Johnson stood tall with 17 points, followed by Crystal Davis, Karina Woodward and Gloria Debose with eight each.
