In last week's column, an outlining of the great grandchildren of Jeremiah Dixon was begun. Those included were the children of John B. Dixon, Anna (Diamond) Padget, and Reubin Diamond. Today's writing will continue covering the descendants in this generation.

Next, the grandchildren of Wiley B. and Elsie (May) Dixon will be presented. These include the children of their daughter, Lucinda, and her husband, George Robinson: Susan, b. 1857, d. 1862; Margaret, b. 1859, d. 1929; John D., b. 1860, d. 1939, m. 1881 Martha Jane Wade; Wiley B., b. 1862, d. 1943, m. 1898, Lilla Rosetta Pate; George R., b. 1864, d. 1922, m. Emma N. Tisdale; William M., b. 1866, d. 1949, m. 1899 Katie Thames; Joseph H., b. 1867, d. 1950, m. 1890 Mittie McLelland; Charles, b. 1869, d. 1938, m. 1895 Caroline R. Frazier; and David E., b. 1873, m. (1) Allie Bennett (2) Allie Hooks (3) Susie Taylor.

Their daughter, Martha, and husband, William A. Wade, had a son, John Wade, b. 1875, d. 1900, m. Lula Belle Ward.

Their daughter, Victoria, and husband, George Wesley Lovelace, had the following children: Sarah A., b. 1869; James Wesley, b. 1870, d. 1943, m. Mary V. Burke; Leatha; Luther D., b. 1880; and Sally Liladella, b. 1886, m. John D. Garvin.

Their son, Napoleon Bonepart, and his first wife, Sallie Tempie (McGowin) had the following children: Eliza Elsie, b. 1874, d. 1913, m. Robert A. Bonifay; Wiley Lewis, b. 1877, d. 1903; and Sallie Bernice, b. 1878, d. 1942, m. John H. Barrow.

Napoleon B. and his second wife, Mary Agnes (McGowin), reared the following children: Florence, b. 1885, d. 1973; Jesse, b. 1886, d. 1963, m. Claudia Kendall; Nell, b. 1889, d. 1973, m. Manning Harrison; Charles, b. 1893, d. 1976, m. Thelma Chapman; Fred, b. 1896, d. 1918, single; and Solon, b. 1902, m. (1) Ellie Gunter (2) Martha Whaley.

Next, the grandchildren of Jeremiah's son, John Boneparte, and his wife, Serina (Liles), will be presented. Their son, James Alexander, and wife, Harty Ann (Paget), had the following three children: Elizabeth "Lizzie," b. 1859, m. Caleb Clark; Rebecca, b. 1860, m. Tom Clark; and Jefferson Davis, b. 1861, d. 1939, m. Sara Jane Hart, daughter of Abram Hart. James served in the Confederate Army with his brother, Ephraim, in Company I, 40th Alabama Infantry. James rose to the rank of Lieutenant, and Ephraim became a Corporal. Unfortunately, James lost his life near Vicksburg in 1864. This left Harty a widow with three young children. At one point she homesteaded 160 acres of land in the Pleasant Home community, which she later deeded to her son, Jefferson Davis, in 1893. She died in 1928 while residing in the home of her son and his wife. (It is interesting that she died the same night as her sister, Mary (Padget) Dixon.

John Boneparte's daughter, Elizabeth, and her husband, Samuel Caton, had the following three children: Ophelia "Olive," m. Matthew Wright Stokes, son of Absalom L. and Elizabeth (Jay) Stokes; Mary, m. Willie Jones; and David, m. Viola Chance. Sadly, Samuel was killed during the War Between the States.

John Boneparte's daughter, Rebecca, and her husband, Allen T. Hart, had at least one daughter, Lorena, b. 1869, d. 1953, m. (1) Robert Crumpler (2) Thomas E. Baisden. Allen was appointed Postmaster of the Rome Post Office in 1873.

John Boneparte's son, Ephraim, and his wife, Susannah Campbell, daughter of William Granville and Elizabeth Campbell, reared the following children: John Bonaparte, b. 1869, d. 1946, m. Manuela Rios; William Grandville, b. 1870, d. 1950; and Alphesus Baker, b. 1879, d. 1935, m. Annie Gilbert. The Dixon and Campbell families were some of the earliest settlers and were neighbors in the Fairfield area.

There are several records of Ephraim's public service. He was a registered voter in 1867 in Beat 10 of the county. In 1873, he became Postmaster of the Andalusia Post Office, and be was appointed County Tax Collector in 1888. He bought or homesteaded land between Andalusia and Gantt. In 1877, he sold his house and purchased land which fronted the West side of the Andalusia Court Square. By 1892, Ephraim decided to move his family to Waco, Texas, where he died in 1897.

John Boneparte's son, Alexander H. was married in 1873 to Mary Magdaline Paget, daughter of James and Caroline Paget. He acquired 120 acres of land near Red Level, which he later sold to his brother-in-law, Elijah Paget in 1880. In 1874, Alexander inherited 160 acres from his father's estate. This acreage was located west of Andalusia along River Falls Road, and he sold it in 1887. In I889, he was granted an 80-acres homestead in the Pleasant Home community where he lived with his family. After his death in 1902, his sons continued to farm this land and operate a general store and gristmill. The store was later moved to the intersection of US 29 and SR 137. It was closed some time before it was taken down in the 1950s.

Alexander H. and Mary M. reared the following children: Mary Magdaline "Maggie," b. 1874, d. 1875; Caroline Sopherna, b. 1865, d. 1932, single; John Padgett, b. 1878, d. 1939, m. Pearl O. Weaver; James Bonepart "Jim," b. 1882, d. 1956, m. Aline Hart; Jessie Ervin, b. 1884, d. 1938, m. Willie M. Harrison; Elizabeth Augusta, b. 1887, d. 1931, single; Elijah Ephraim "Lige," b. 1895, d. 1961, m. Gertrude Hall, daughter of Robert Hall.

Although there are many other Dixon descendants in the area, the ones identified above are the ones included in the research and family records of Walter Dixon. Walter is the son of John Padgett and Pearl O. (Weaver) Dixon and the grandson of Alexander H. and Mary M. (Paget) Dixon.

The Covington Rifles Camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 7, at the Andalusia Public Library. New camp Compatriot Benny McDaniel will share the history of his McDaniel family. Guests are welcome.

FAMILY REUNION:

The G.F.C. Moore family will have its annual reunion beginning at 10 a.m. today, August 2, at the FOP Lodge in Gantt.
