Soccer can be fun and as word spread about how much fun it can be, more and more young people showed up at the soccer field in Andalusia to participate in a free clinic.

The clinic was being held with featured instructor Erin Hinson. Hinson is a member of the 2003 Southeastern Conference Champion Auburn University soccer team. She will be a senior on the team this season as the Lady Tigers attempt to defend their SEC title.

Hinson said the young soccer players she instructed were not the only ones having a good time this week.

"I think they have been having fun. It seems like they are having fun," Hinson said. "I've been having fun and really enjoying it a lot.

"I'm glad they brought me down here," she added. "It's a good opportunity and I hope to promote soccer."

Hinson said the clinic has focused on teaching the fundamentals of soccer, especially to the youngest players.

"We've been working mainly on some basic skills like dribbling, controlling the ball, shooting and passing," Hinson said.

The clinic was split up into three age groups each day. The first group was for children ages 4 to 7. The second group of young soccer players were for children ages 8 to 10. The final session each day was for older soccer players ages 11 to 18.

Soccer registration for the Andalusia Youth Soccer League continues through Aug. 15. Registration is being held in the Johnson Park office weekdays from 3:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
