Covington County in title game

It took extra innings, but the Covington County 11- and 12-year-old Little League All-Stars recorded a 6-3 win against the host Brewton All-Stars in eight innings.

Covington County went on top 1-0 in the first inning when Shane Turner reached on a single and scored later in the inning when Kyle Nolen reached on an RBI-double.

Matthew Bond gave Covington County a 2-0 lead in the second inning when he blasted a solo home run over the fence.

Brewton scored one run in the bottom of the second to trim Covington County's lead to one run.

Bond scored his second run of the game for Covington County in the top of the fourth inning after reaching on a walk. He scored on Clay Stacks' fielder's choice.

Houston Simmons got Brewton back within one run of Covington County with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Corey Williams tied up the game at 3-3 when he belted a solo home run in the top of the sixth inning for Brewton.

The score remained knotted at 3-3 until the top of the eighth inning when Aaron Haag scored on a solo homer. Emory Rabren also scored for Covington County after reaching base on a single. Bond scored his third run of the game in the inning after reaching base on a walk for a 6-3 lead.

Brewton failed to score in the bottom of the eighth, with Covington County advancing to the District 5 Tournament Championship Game set for 7 p.m. tonight

Shane Turner was the winning pitcher. He pitched 2 2/3 innings in relief and struck out all eight batters he faced.

Rabren started the game on the mound for Covington County and went 5 1/3 innings allowing three runs on three hits. Two of the hits were home runs. He issued three walks. He also hit two batters. He struck out 11 batters.
