Red Level man dies when vehicle hits tractor

A one-vehicle accident in River Falls Tuesday afternoon claimed the life of a 43-year-old Red Level man.

Richard Moss said Mike Nolen died when the Chevrolet Blazer he was driving collided with a Kobelco excavating tractor.

The accident occurred around 3 p.m. on Sunnyside Road near County Road 107 and Alabama Highway 55 in River Falls.

Moss said Nolen's vehicle was traveling South on County Road 107 when his vehicle left the roadway and made contact with a parked excavator being used to install a new water system in River Falls.

He said the accident is still under investigation, with River Falls Police Chief Jeff Holland leading the investigation.

Other agencies responding to the wreck included the River Falls Volunteer Fire Department, the Andalusia Rescue Squad, the Andalusia Police Department, Red Level Police Department, the Covington County 22nd Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, Covington County Sheriff's Department, Covington County Coroner's Office and Bryant's Body Shop.

Covington County Assistant Coroner Earl Dorman said he pronounced Nolen dead at 3:45 p.m., and described Nolen's injuries as severe blunt trauma to the chest.
