Stingrays bring home ‘best’

Forty-one personal best times were posted among Andalusia’s Stingrays Saturday in their swim meet in Eufaula.

Eleven-and-up coach Gavin Donaldson said in addition to the 41 best times for swimmers, 15 of the 41 times were five seconds or less from state qualifying times.

“The team did well, but we still have some of the little things that need to be fixed over the next two weeks,” Donaldson said. “This meet was a good test for the team. Over the next two weeks, I will be mixing in more technique to fix some of the little things that I saw at the Eufaula meet.”

The Stingrays were up against host Eufaula, Troy and Opelika at the meet.

Nine-and-10-year-old swim coach Candy Parker said a lot of her swimmers were out sick for the meet, but those that were there swam “very well.”

“I think it was great that we swam against Opelika because they stepped it up and swam better,” Parker said. “It was more exciting for them.”

Eight-and-under coach Andy Shaddix said a few of his kids were able to swim with the older swimmers.

“They did real well,” Shaddix said. “It was good to see what we could do up against a higher level of competiton (Opelika) with district coming up in about a month.”

Two swimmers exceeded state qualifying times in their respective category.

Noah Rider exceeded the state qualifying time in the breaststroke and backstroke, and Chase Fill accomplished that feat in the butterfly.
