Pleasant Home’s seven 3-pointers in the first half propelled the Eagles to a 71-37 Class 1A, Area 2 championship victory over Geneva County on Monday night.

“In the second half, we just ran the game out,” PHS coach Jerry Davis said.

Lance Davis, who had 23 points to lead PHS, shot 21 points in the first half to help the Eagles take a 49-15 lead at half time.

Josh O’Neal chipped in 21 points, and Kaleb Powell had 11 points.

With this win, the Eagles (20-7) will host the Class 1A sub regional tournament on Friday night, where they will face Georgiana.

Davis said the execution in the first half was what did it in the win.

“We probably executed as well as we have in the first half,” he said. “We just didn’t make many mistakes.”

Lady Eagles fall

In the girls game, the Lady Eagles lost 57-44 to Geneva County to finish as the runner-up.

Early foul trouble cost the Lady Eagles the game, PHS girls coach Kelley Garner said.

“We got off to a slow start and had to play catch-up,” she said.

The Lady Eagles trailed 18-6 at the end of the first; 34-16 at the half; and 43-32 at the end of the third.

Mary Schwartz had 13 points, while Raven Woods had 12.

The Lady Eagles travel to Brantley for sub-regionals Friday.
