Strong pitching lifts Saints

Strong pitching performances sparked LBWCC to a conference doubleheader sweep over Enterprise State on Tuesday.

The Saints beat ESCC 4-0 in game one, and won a close game two, 2-1.

LBWCC improves to 19-7 overall, and 9-3 in ACCC South.

With these wins, the Saints are now on a five-game win streak.

Andalusia’s community college baseball team will host Bishop State today at 1 p.m. for a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at noon.

Game 1

LBWCC 4, ESCC 0

Sam Bass struck out eight batters and allowed no runs on two hits in six innings to earn the win. Brady Eldridge got the save in one inning of work.

LBWCC scored three runs in the bottom of the second inning to take an early 3-0 lead.

Both teams didn’t score in the third and fourth, but the Saints tacked on a run in the fifth to take the four-run advantage all the way to the top of the seventh inning, where Eldridge did his work.

Trevor Maxey went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run to lead the Saints. Charlie Spencer had a hit and an RBI.

Trey Chambers, Ryan Barnes, Eric Walding and Dusty Jones had one hit each for LBWCC.

Juan Fontella and Damon Jackson got one hit each for ESCC.

Game 2

LBWCC 2, ESCC 1

Sean Cramer only needed 5.2 innings to do his work.

Cramer struck out nine batters and allowed one run on three hits to lift the Saints to the game two win and sweep.

Eldridge came in again and got the save in a 1.1-inning outing. He struck out one.

Conner Pinegar went 2-for-3 with one run; Brandon Mayhann went 1-for-3; and Chambers went 1-for-2 to lead the Saints.

ESCC took a 1-0 lead after the first inning, but the Saints tied the game up in the third with a run.

LBWCC added one run in the fifth and held out in the seven-inning game for the win.

In softball action, the Lady Saints fell to a good Chipola team 4-1.
