The worst of this week’s severe weather should have passed through Covington County by today, according to officials, but the storm system leaves in its wake a statewide death toll of three.

According to published reports, two people in Limestone County, as well as one person in Tuscaloosa County, had been killed as a direct result of the weather as of Tuesday night.

In Covington County, only minor damage was reported, as two homes in Andalusia were struck by lightening early Tuesday morning.

Susan Harris, director of the Covington County Emergency Management Agency, said Andalusia fire fighters responded to homes on both Devonwood Drive and Carlton Street Tuesday. Officials with Andalusia Fire Department said both incidents were likely caused by lightening and neither case resulted in major damage.

Harris said Covington County remained in the risk zone for severe weather through around 2 a.m. today, but was expected to be clear by daybreak.
