Straughn’s Molly Stewart scored on a passed ball to help lead the Lady Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Opp on Friday.

With Jacie Williamson at second base and Stewart at third in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Bobcats elected to intentionally walk batter Katelyn Kinsaul.

On the fourth throw from the pitcher, the ball sailed just right of the catcher’s reach and SHS received a favorable kick off the back pad as Stewart took advantage in scoring the run that secured the Class 3A, Area 2 championship for her team.

Lady Tigers coach Kenny Skipper said that all day, the girls played well in all phases of the game

Skipper said the girls made some really nice plays on defense and hit well during the first two games, a 18-0 victory over Southside Selma and a 9-5 win over Excel in the semifinals.

Brentley Armstrong hit two home runs — a three-run bomb and a grand slam — against SSHS.

Opp fell 12-5 to Excel in its first game of the day, but came back to oust SSHS with a 28-0 decision.

The Lady Bobcats needed to beat EHS in the loser’s bracket finals and came away with a 6-1 victory.

Both Straughn and Opp will play in the South Regional Tournament in Gulf Shores next week.
