A late rally pushed Faulkner State past the LBW Lady Saints in a 10-2 victory Tuesday night in Andalusia.

The Lady Saints nearly broke through in the bottom of the second inning after Jamaica Williams led off with a single off the top of the center field fence.

Williams almost scored on an error, but was thrown out at the plate.

The Lady Saints put the first run on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning when Eddie Johnson drove in Chena Segree from third.

Rebekkah Matheny started on the mound for the Lady Saints, and didn’t allow Faulkner to score a run until the fifth inning.

Faulkner started off the top of the fifth by having a player reach on an error, and then two batters later, the Lady Sun Chiefs tied the game up with a sacrifice hit.

The Lady Saints went back up in the bottom of the fifth, but just couldn’t get a hit when they needed to.

With the bases loaded, Johnson was hit by a pitch to force in Ashlee Vick from third.

The wheels sort of fell off the bus after that, and a few errors put the Lady Saints down 5-2 in the top of the sixth.

LBWCC was unable to get anything going in the sixth, and a base running error cost them a runner.

The Lady Sun Chiefs continued to pour it on the Lady Saints in the top of the seventh, and took a 10-2 lead with only three outs remaining.

The Lady Saints got two base runners in the bottom of the last inning, but weren’t able to move them across to score.

“We couldn’t get the big hit when we needed it,” Lady Saints’ head coach Candace Tucker said. “It seems like we can’t get over that hill. The chances were there, we just couldn’t get it done.”
