The Andalusia junior varsity volleyball team traveled to Dothan this past weekend to take part in the Providence Christian Academy junior varsity volleyball tournament.
The JV team finished in fourth place after falling to PCA in the semifinal round of the tournament in two games, 17-25, 14-25.
“We got there and played Marianna and lost there right at the get go,” JV head coach Angie Grimes said. “We beat Dauphin, but what happened was Houston Academy didn’t show up and that meant we had to play Marianna again for second and third place. We turned around and beat them, so we ended up being No. 2 in Pool B.”
Other teams that participated in the tournament included Marianna and Dauphin.
“The runner-up, which was us, had to play the winner of Pool A and that was Providence,” she said. “That put us out of the tournament.”
In the first match in Pool B play, Andalusia lost to Marianna in two games, 18-25, 14-25.
Andalusia turned around in the second match against Dauphin and won in three games 25-17, 14-25, 15-10.
In the third match, Andalusia won in three games against Marianna to get their ticket to the semifinal round.
They lost the first game 11-25 and won the last two 25-20, 15-8.
Overall at the tournament, Grimes said that the team did OK and that they got better with experience.
“They did OK and they got better each game,” Grimes said. “But the problem was they took a long break after playing back-to-back games. They played back-to-back for those three games and got better and better. They came out in that semifinal game real sluggish, so that happens.
“They’ve gotten better every time they’ve played,” she said.
The junior varsity team, along with the varsity, will play PCA today starting at 3:30 p.m. in Providence.
