Coming off of their win against the Florala Wildcats last week, the Red Level Tigers (2-3, 0-3 in Class 2A, Region 1) will have the opportunity to claim a first region win this Friday night when they travel to face Washington County (3-3, 2-1 in Class 2A, Region 1).
Head coach Tim Grimes said Washington County is a team that should not be taken lightly.
“Washington County has a very good football team,” Grimes said. “They lost three of their games to very good opponents. Their record is kind of misleading because of the losses against Leroy and Jackson.”
Grimes said the team is feeling better coming off of the win last week, but right now are trying to stay healthy.
“Our kids are definitely feeling better,” he said. “We didn’t come out too focused to start out with last week, but we played harder.
“Practice has gone fine this week, but we’ve got some kids nursing bruises,” he said. “It’s always at the end of the year kids have bruises they got at the beginning of the year. They are playing through it.”
On the second half of the season, Grimes said it will provide a good gauge to see how the team has progressed.
“We’ve got an opportunity to see how far we’ve come this year,” Grimes said. “All of our games even though the loss to Millry, have been competitive. Our kids have not quit this year and I hope to continue to do that. They have matured as a group regardless of the wins and losses.
“They have wanted to win every game because they’ve worked hard in the off season,” he said. “They know they can’t win every game, but they’re getting prepared for them.”
Kickoff in Washington County is at 7 p.m.
