Size was a factor for the Pleasant Home Eagles Thursday night, but the Eagles were still able to overcome against their bigger opponent.
The Eagles narrowly beat J.U. Blacksher 48-42 in four close quarters.
Pleasant Home lead throughout the whole game in single digits to claim the win.
Head coach Jerry Davis said this game was close and a test to see how the team dealt with size.
“I’m sure we are going to have a bunch of them,” Davis said. “It’s early in the year and we’re going to play against a bunch of athletic teams and it’s going to be difficult. Our size will become a factor when we play against big and strong people and they were.”
On what needs improvement, Davis said keeping the turnovers down is a must for the team.
“The offense and defense,” he said. “The only thing that we need to salvage is that we didn’t turn the ball over that much. We haven’t shot the ball well. We’re going to have to shoot the ball. We had plenty of good shots, but we didn’t make anything out of it.
“The good thing about it is that we made good shots when we needed to,” he said. “We don’t normally guard people. We’re going to have to battle and struggle for a ball game this year. It’s going to be that kind of season.”
Davis said he did not have to make adjustments at halftime to match Blacksher’s press.
“We never really came out and pressed,” Davis said. “We never did that. But, we always get a three or five-point lead when we want to do it. We just kind of played the game cautious and rode it out. If it stayed pretty tight, we’d have to go out and get them.”
