The Opp Bobcats could not continue the positive momentum from their win over Elba last week to defeat Georgiana Tuesday night.

The Bobcats (1-2) lost 72-60, but head coach Ronnie Sansom said it was a close game and that he was proud of the way his team played.

“We played extremely hard and executed the ball better offensively,” Sansom said. “We shot the ball much better compared to the first two games. We had more people contribute on offense and defense.”

The Bobcats were up by five points after the first quarter and down by two at halftime. They could not pull out the win as Georgiana took a two-point lead at the end of the third before winning by 12.

Sansom said one thing that contributed to the loss for his team was turnovers.

“We had some costly turnovers at the beginning of the third quarter,” he said. “It went kind of back and forth at the end. I’m not happy with the loss, but I’m extremely proud with the way the kids played and the improvement they’ve shown.”

Sansom said the team will be working on free throws at practice.

“We’ve got to work on the free throws a little bit,” Sansom said. “I was proud of the adjustments they made on defense. We came out and played man to man. Once we get a little more comfortable on what we’re doing on defense and offense, then we’ll be fine.”

Opp will face New Brockton on Mon., Dec. 1, in New Brockton at 4:30 p.m.
