Andalusia only allowed eight points in the second half Friday night, dominating the Opp Bobcats 69-18.
The Bulldogs (6-0) started the game 17-6 going into the second quarter and added an additional 13 points to go up 30-10 at halftime.
Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said Opp (2-4) gave his team some trouble in the first half.
“The first half (Opp) had a plan and they stuck with it and that gave us problems because we went out there in another zone,” Robertson said. “It was a defensive effort, but the first half we didn’t execute our plan.
“We’re not out to try and embarrass anybody like that,” he added.
After the third quarter, the score was 52-12, as the Bobcats could not get it any closer.
“Coach (Ronnie) Sansom has done a good job with what he has,” Robertson said. “They’re going to be all right. The thing is with our size and the system we want to run I don’t need an individual effort, I want a whole team effort. That’s what we got in the second half, but you’ve got to chew them out to get it.”
Robertson said the strategy going into the second half was to get the ball inside.
“The second half strategy was to pick them up and get the ball inside more,” he said. “There is no use in having size if you don’t use it. We got in there the second half, but the thing is I don’t want to wait around that long in a game.
“We didn’t do a good job with our defensive pressure in the first half because the people that matched us were out of kilter,” he said. “The release man was the No. 3 man and that’s what I was chewing my players out about at the half.”
Robertson said work still needs to be done in order to get his team in the shape he wants it to be.
“We’re going to work on everything because we’re not a good basketball team yet,” he said. “We’re not the kind of team I’m looking for. We’ve got to have everyone working together in a cohesiveness.
“We have made too many mistakes in key spots,” he said. “I know what we’re up against and know what’s coming. Everybody’s looking at the opponent and the score. I’m looking at doing everything correctly. Some of the things we’re doing are going to get us beat.”
Leading scorers for the Bulldogs were Brandon Sims with 16 points, Nico Johnson with 15 points and Jamal Curry with 11 points.
In earlier action Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs ousted the Lady Bobcats 60-27.
Leading scorers for the Lady Bulldogs were Chantavia Lawrence and Anjelica White with 13 points each.
For the Lady Bobcats, Mychal Drew had eight points.
