Straughn rallied to get its second win of their season Saturday afternoon, defeating Florala, 57-15.
The Tigers hosted the Wildcats in the weekend exhibition before their game against Brantley tonight.
Straughn coach Todd Reynolds said the team is starting to click.
“This evens our record up at 2-2 heading into a tough game (today) against Brantley in Brantley,” Reynolds said. “We’re starting to get some things figured out. It still is going to take some time, but I think we’re definitely getting going in the direction we’re needing to go. Again, we’re trying to get that team chemistry and that intensity I need.”
Reynolds said the team got the win by the way they played.
“Florala played us tough, but we just had stuff working for us early,” he said. “We came out with some good intensity and a pretty good game plan and we stuck to it. We have a long way to go, but I can see improvement in the areas where I want them. We’ve just got to keep fighting.”
The leading scorer for the Tigers was Jakim Felton with 14 points.
In B-team action, Straughn won 39-29.
Later this week, starting on Thursday, Straughn will host its annual boys Christmas Shootout.
Play starts at 3:30 p.m. with Kinston vs. Georgiana; 5 p.m. with Brantley vs. Goshen; 6:30 p.m. with New Brockton vs. Red Level and 8 p.m. with Straughn vs. McKenzie.
In action last Thursday night, Straughn beat New Brockton for its first win of the season, 58-55, and the B-team won as well, 53-30.
Leading scorers for the varsity were James Byrd with 16 points and Bryan Walker and C.J. Christopher who both had 11 points.
Straughn will travel to face Brantley today. Tip off is at 4:30 p.m. with the B-team.
