Keeping the opponent’s transition game under control will be the game plan for the Opp Lady Bobcats Friday night as they host Ashford and continue their run in area play.
The Lady Bobcats (9-6, 1-2 in Class 4A, Area 2) lost by a close three points Tuesday night to Brewbaker Tech, 42-39.
“It was back and forth the whole game, but towards the end of the game we had a couple of mishaps on defense where we were having some people out of position and they were getting some easy baskets,” Opp coach Allison Gregory said. “We just went on a drought where (Tech) went on a 7-0 run.
“It was about one minute left and we recovered to pull back to one point, then we fouled toward the end and missed free throws,” she said. “We kept it right there with them and then they hit two (free throws) and sealed it with a second left to go in the game.”
As for Ashford on Friday night, Gregory said her team is anxious for another area match.
“We’re looking forward to another area match up,” she said. “Ashford is pretty good. They’ve got everybody returning from last year’s team. So, we know we’ve got to bring our ‘A’ game and hopefully we’ll execute our game plan and play well.
“I think the key to it is to stop the transition game and by not giving them second-chance buckets.”
Gregory said she has seen Ashford play before and that they take advantage of second chances.
“We have to only allow them one shot at the basket and box them out,” Gregory said. “If we do those things, we’ll be right there in the end.”
Tip off in Opp is right after the B-team boys. The B-team starts at 4:30 p.m.
