Enfinger wins ‘supreme’ award at heifer show

Twenty-five young cattlemen and cattlewomen competed at the Covington County Invitational Junior Heifer Show on Jan. 10 at the Covington Center Arena.

The invitational has been an annual event since 1997 and is sponsored by the Covington County Cattlemen’s Association.

The show was split up into eight classes or divisions based on the presentation of the competitor’s heifer and in age range of 10-to-18 years old. A heifer is a young female calf that has not borne a calf.

In the showmanship class, winners were: Holli Napper of Troy (10-12); Robert Johnson of Midland City (13-14); Ryan Clark of Newton (15-16) and Morgan Dubose of Troy (17-18).

In the commercial classes, the heifers were judged as of the heifer’s age. Brooke Enfinger of Hartford mwas awarded champion and reserve champion.

In the Angus class, Ryan Clark of Newton was champion with Brooke Enfinger as reserve champion.

In the Simmental classes, Sarah Dickinson of Citronelle was named champion and reserve champion.

In the Charolais competition, Ryan Clark won champion and Cameron Morgan of Dozier was reserve champion.

In the other breeds class, Dubose won champion and Dickinson received reserve champion.

Buddy Skipper of Chancellor was named champion in the Limousin division with Ben Jones of Enterprise receiving reserve champion.

Supreme champion was Brooke Enfinger with Morgan Dubose as reserve champion.
