Lady Tigers vie for area title

The Straughn Lady Tigers will vie for their area championship tonight as they take on visiting rival, Calhoun.

The Lady Tigers have seen a string of success recently and coach Scott Kinsaul said his team will have to make shots to have an effect on Calhoun.

“Calhoun is a team that is very athletic and tall,” Kinsaul said. “They pose a problem with us on the inside. They’ve got some girls that are good rebounders. We’re going to have to shoot well in order to be effective.”

Straughn (17-4, 4-1 in Class 3A, Area 3) has the same area record as Calhoun (4-1) going into tonight’s game.

Kinsaul said he is counting on support to be big for his team.

“We’re hoping for a big crowd,” he said. “(Tonight) is $1 student night. We’re looking for a big crowd. It’s the biggest girls basketball game tonight, and is important for boys as well.

“Calhoun has turned into a rivalry game for us. They beat us by two points last Friday night and hopefully we can return the favor and beat them (tonight).”

Tip off for the girls tonight is at 5:30 p.m.
