Pleasant Home ended Florala’s season and booted the Wildcats out of the Area 3 tournament Friday night, 57-37.

The Eagles (17-8) led 20-9 going into the second quarter, 30-19 going into halftime and 43-29 going into the fourth.

Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said his team “overall played a pretty good basketball game.”

“We’ve got to be intense and you’ve got to play hard,” Davis said. “There is a tomorrow above you and that’s key right there. Now, you’re playing for whether you are hosting or are you traveling.”

On the next game against McKenzie Monday night for the area championship, Davis said he hopes his team wins.

“I guarantee you playing at the house is a big deal,” he said. “Of course, us and McKenzie are very familiar with each other and have played each other twice. We split, so this next game will break the tie.”

The leading scorer for Pleasant Home was Emory Rabren with 20 points.

“We’ve improved steadily and we played hard,” Florala coach Brad Garner said. “We got out here and fought. I was proud of them.”

Dustin Hinson led the Wildcats with 14 points.

In earlier action, the Lady Eagles routed Kinston, 89-13.

Leading scorers for the Lady Eagles were Erin Byrd with 17 points, Ariel Gunter with 15 points and Gina Davis and Kayla Woods, who had 11 points apiece.

“That was the first of seven (wins) that we need,” Pleasant Home coach Kelley Garner said. “We had to win that one to move on. We came out intense and aggressive. We played hard and played well. Everybody got to play a lot, so now we’ve got to go back to the drawing boards and work on the next game.”

The girls will host Florala Monday night at 6 p.m. and the boys will host McKenzie at 7:30 p.m.
