The Andalusia Lady Bulldogs came off of their area championship loss Monday night to bounce back and beat UMS-Wright in Mobile Thursday, 54-48, to win their slot at the South Regional tournament in Troy next week.

The Lady Bulldogs (23-3) went up 12-11 after the first quarter, 21-18 at halftime and 42-31 going into the fourth to pull out the victory.

Andalusia coach Bennie Shellhouse said his girls played well even though a key player was injured.

“They played really hard,” Shellhouse said. “With us having our starter out we had to have people step up and play.”

The leading scorers for Andalusia were Alexis Horton with 21 points, Anjelica White with 11, Amber Anderson with 10 and Chantavia Lawrence with seven.

“We are just happy to be here,” Shellhouse said. “We’re 23-3 and you can’t be disappointed in where we’re at right now. We’re doing what we need to do right now.”

The Lady Bulldogs will play on Thurs., Feb. 19, at Troy University in the Class 4A South Regional tournament against St. James.

Tip off in Trojan Arena is at noon.
