The Opp Lady Bobcats scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning Monday night to help seal their 4-2 win over Andalusia in Opp.
Opp’s Kaitlynn Michael got on base with a single and drove in one run before Beth Anne Spurlin drove in the additional two runs on a single.
The Lady Bobcats’ (2-2) earlier run came in the fifth inning when Andrea Edwards was walked and then scored on an RBI double from Spurlin.
“Pitching and defense were very good in the game by both teams,” Opp coach Scott Gafford said. “We came up with some big hits when we needed them.”
Andalusia (2-1) got on board first in the fourth inning when Paige Caraway hit a double. Anjelica White relieved Caraway and stole third base.
Then, A.C. Riley hit an RBI to score White.
In the fifth inning, Andalusia’s Megan Pugh started with a double and was brought home by an RBI from Kristin Evans to give the Lady Bulldogs their final run of the game.
“We played fairly well defensively. We had a couple of errors,” Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said. “It was just cold and we didn’t hit. We’re going to have to get back on it and get some hits.”
Andalusia will play in its first area game Thursday and will host Hillcrest-Evergreen at the Andalusia Sports Complex. Junior varsity play begins at 4 p.m.
Opp will also play its first area game Thursday in Opp against Ashford. Opp will begin play at 4:30 p.m.
