Pleasant Home pulled out a two-out, six-run rally in the sixth inning Monday night to defeat visiting Laurel Hill (Fla.), 10-9.
The rally started when Ethan Soles and Sid Newby got on base on errors and then were driven in on a double from Forrest Greathouse.
Pleasant Home’s Justin Holt then doubled to score Greathouse. Josh Godwin singled to score Holt.
Colter Poole and Blake Herman also got on base on errors and Poole scored on a throwing error from the shortstop to win the game.
The Eagles (2-2) tied the game up 1-1 in the fourth inning before putting up an additional three runs in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth the Eagles put up three runs when Colter Poole got on base and Blake Herman hit a single, which scored Poole. Fernando Torres hit a triple and was knocked in by Sid Newby.
Laurel Hill was not done in the seventh inning, putting up six runs, but was unable to take the lead.
“I felt like the team played rather well considering that we had a starter out due to illness and we have a pitcher who is out right now because of a knee injury,” Pleasant Home coach Bradley Stephens said. “We are playing OK baseball right now. I feel that our bats need to come alive pretty soon and the sooner our boys realize that we can hit, the better off we will be.”
Torres was 2-for-4 with a double; Godwin and Herman were 1-for-5; and Greathouse and Holt were 1-for-3.
Pleasant Home will host the Covington County baseball tournament from Feb. 6-7.
