AHS boys, OHS girls take victory in tennis

The Andalusia boys tennis team added to its already undefeated record Tuesday afternoon, winning over Opp, 9-0.

The Bulldogs improved to a season record of 6-0.

In single match play, Andalusia’s Jake Ricardy defeated David Brogden in two straight sets, 6-0, 6-1; Andalusia’s Stephen Darby defeated Michael Ball, 6-1, 6-1; Andalusia’s Jay McCord defeated Kris Handy, 6-0, 6-0; Andalusia’s Mayur Patel defeated Nick Hampton, 6-1, 6-1; and Andalusia’s Mitchell Clark defeated Shane Grimes, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action Tuesday afternoon, Ricardy and Clark defeated Ball and Hardy, 6-2, 6-1; and McCord and Darby defeated Brogden and Hampton, 6-0, 6-1.

Two of the doubles and two of the singles matches between the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs and the Opp Lady Bobcats took more than two hours to finish Tuesday. The Lady Bobcats prevailed over the Lady Bulldogs, 5-4.

Andalusia (2-3) and Opp tied in singles match play, with both teams winning three matches apiece.

Andalusia’s Charlotte Patterson defeated Opp’s Ashley Williams 6-1, 6-0; Opp’s Mallory Mims defeated Andalusia’s Tally Morrow 7-6, 7-5; Opp’s Rissa Wamsley defeated Andalusia’s Christian Christensen 6-3, 2-6 (12-10) with a tie-breaker in the third set; Opp’s Jessica Register defeated Andalusia’s Aubrey Boyington 7-5, 6-2; Andalusia’s Melissa Riley defeated Opp’s Korrie Lynn James 6-2, 7-6 (7-5); and Andalusia’s Mary Beth Arrington defeated Opp’s Anna Hall 7-6 (7-1), 6-0.

In doubles, Opp players Mims and Williams defeated Andalusia players Patterson and Christensen 6-3, 5-7, 7-5; Andalusia players Morrow and Boyington defeated Opp players Wamsley and Hall in the second match 7-6, 6-0, 6-0; and Opp players Register and James defeated Andalusia players Riley and Arrington 6-2, 6-0.

Opp will be hosting T.R. Miller on Friday. Play starts at 4:30 p.m.

Next week, the Andalusia boys team will be hosting the Andalusia tournament Fri., March 13 at the LBWCC tennis courts, while the girls team will compete in the Opp tournament on the same day at Opp High School.
