The Opp Lady Bobcats gave up two unearned runs in the first inning Thursday night to lose their first area game to Ashford, 2-0.

“It looked like Little League 9- and 10-year-olds playing,” Opp coach Scott Gafford said. “We had every opportunity to win this game. It’s just another hurdle we have to jump over. We managed to jump over the Andalusia hurdle. It’s kind of a mental thing, not that (Ashford) is better than us. We just didn’t made plays.”

Gafford said his team could have had a better night at the plate.

“We didn’t hit the ball because their pitcher changed speeds a lot,” he said. “We had the first two hits of the game in the seventh inning. We just didn’t hit much.”

The Lady Bobcats fall to 3-3 on the season and are 0-1 in Class 4A, Area 2.
