The Straughn Lady Tigers shut out the Florala Lady Wildcats Tuesday night in five innings, winning 10-0.

Shelley Jones got the win for Straughn. Jones pitched four innings, gave up zero runs and had four strikeouts. Katy Messick relieved Jones in the fifth inning and struck out two hitters and allowed no hits and no runs.

The Lady Tigers moved to 2-0 on the season and will host the Charles Henderson Lady Trojans tonight in Straughn. The varsity team will start after the junior varsity team, which starts play at 4:30 p.m.

Straughn coach Ray Wilson said it has been a while since his team played CHHS.

“They of course are (Class) 5A and are in a tough region up there of course with Rehobeth,” Wilson said. “They’ll have a good softball team. They’ll be real solid.”

Wilson said mistakes need to be corrected in order for his team to make progress.

“We still made too many errors in the last two games we played,” he said. “We’ve been fortunate to win, but we’ve got to eliminate those mistakes to start progressing forward. We’ve had good enough pitching to win. It’s been a lot of fielding errors and some things like that.”

This weekend, the Lady Tigers will travel to play in the Troy tournament. Straughn’s first game is Friday night at 8 p.m. against Beulah.
