The Red Level Lady Tigers swept Highland Home Monday at home in a doubleheader, 6-0, 5-1.

Red Level (9-3, 0-1 in Class 2A, Area 1) stepped up its defense in the first game to prevent the Lady Squadron from getting on base.

“The defense was awesome in both games,” Red Level coach Heather Walden said.

Red Level’s Maggie Lambert helped lead her team to victory Monday in both games, striking out 10 hitters in the first game, while adding six more strikeouts in the second game.

“That was probably her best two games,” Walden said. “She’s got 76 strikeouts in the season in only eight games.”

Walden said she was happy with her team’s hitting during the contests.

“We all hit the ball in the second game,” she said. “(Highland Home) had two hits the whole first game.”

In the first game, Katie Lindsey, Machlin Bachelor and Jessie Sharpe each had hits.

Walden said she thinks her team is off to a solid start.

“I think we’re doing pretty good so far,” she said. “We’re getting a lot of heads turned and eyebrows lifted. I think it is a well-improved team since last year. They’ve come a long way.”

The Lady Tigers will travel to play Brantley on Friday. The junior varsity team will start at 4 p.m.

Red Level has some upcoming area games at the end of March and April against Excel, Flomaton and Mobile Christian.

The Lady Tigers play in Excel on March 26 in a doubleheader, Flomaton on March 31; and Mobile Christian in late April.
