Bulldogs ready for Hillcrest

After a break from action, the Andalusia Bulldogs will travel to face the Hillcrest-Evergreen Jaguars in their first area game today.

In their last game, the Bulldogs were in Dale County, where they won, 13-7.

Since then, Andalusia (9-9) has been out on the diamond getting prepared for area play.

Andalusia coach Jonathan Rasberry said he feels the team now understands what it will take to get to the playoffs.

“I think hopefully we’re starting to come together and realizing what we’re trying to do to get to the playoffs and essentially in area,” Rasberry said. “I think we have our expectations. All we have to do now is execute and take care of the things that we need to take care of and not worry about anything else.”

Rasberry said his team has done a good job of simplifying their approach.

“We’re getting in the rhythm of our approaches and understanding why we have that approach — why we have to do this and why we have to do that,” he said. “I think at the beginning of the year we had a lot of questions of why we do things and now I think we’ve answered those questions after playing 18 games.

“There is still stuff that we’re learning, but I think we’ve gotten to the gist of the program I’m trying to run and how to do things,” he said. “We’ve just got to go out there and do it instead of being a little antsy or eager and try to stay calm and do the things we need to take care of.”

One thing the Bulldogs are expected to control is the Jaguars’ pitching.

“If we stick to our approaches really I’m not concerned about any pitcher if we have our approaches at the plate,” Rasberry said. “We’ll bunt when we have to get down and bunt and we’ll do the things we can control. If we do the things we can control, their pitchers aren’t going to do anything to the outcome.”

The game will start at 4 p.m. today in Evergreen. If inclement weather should occur, the game will be made up later in the week.
