After losing to Pleasant Home 5-1 Monday, the Andalusia Lady Bulldogs are looking for a win as they host Class 1A powerhouse Kinston today at the Andalusia Sports Complex.

Kinston lost to Pleasant Home Tuesday night, 4-1 in area play and the Lady Bulldogs (5-8, 1-0 in Class 4A, Area 3) have been preparing for the game since Monday night.

Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said the team should play well today.

“I hope we play well,” Mikel said. “I hope we have good defense and hit the ball well. We’ve got a good chance if we play defense well. We have a chance of beating them, I think. We’ve just got to play well and have good pitching.”

Since Monday, the team’s focus has been concentrated on hitting, Mikel said. The team was out Tuesday at the complex to build confidence behind the plate, Mikel added.

Since the beginning of the year, Mikel said the one aspect of the game that has seen improvement is “defense.”

“I think we’re trying to continue to get better,” he said. “Our hitting isn’t where it needs to be, but we’re working on that. Our pitching is getting pretty good. I see us hopefully turning the corner the next two or three games and be getting where we need to be.”
