It took six innings Monday for the Pleasant Home Eagles to force the mercy rule over Georgiana in a 13-3 win.
Pleasant Home’s Blake Herman got the win on the mound for his team, striking out 17 batters and giving up three walks and four hits in 6.0 innings.
“Blake pitched an amazing game,” Pleasant Home coach Bradley Stephens said. “There were two hits on him and that’s where they got their runs scored. Other than that, our defense didn’t have a lot coming to them by way of 17 strikeouts.”
Stephens said the team’s hitting was the best part of the game.
“We started out hitting the ball really well and it seemed like it was one of those games where you get really really hot and then all of a sudden you see it kind of get cool and then we started hitting the ball real well again,” he said. “We’ve been coming off of this losing streak lately, but we’ve been playing a lot of bigger schools and we haven’t played too many 1A schools so far. It seems like things are coming together for us.”
Fernando Torres was 2-for-5 with two walks, one triple and one single; Josh Sutton was 3-for-5 with one walk and one single; and Stephen Davis was 2-for-4 with one double.
The Eagles move to 5-8, 2-0 in Class 1A, Area 3, on the season and they will be hosting Florala on Thursday at 4 p.m.
