Straughn falls to Luverne 4-1 in area championship

The Straughn Tigers lost to Luverne 4-1 in the area championship game in Luverne Thursday night.

“We really pitched well,” Straughn coach John Fussell said. “I thought that we threw three pitchers at them and all threw well.”

Fussell noted that Straughn players Levi Lumpkin and Luke Fussell made good plays during the game.

Straughn will play Headland in Headland next Fri., April 17, in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.

The game starts at 3 p.m.

However, Straughn will play Enterprise in Headland today at 1 p.m.

On Monday, the Tigers (18-9, 2-2 in Class 3A, Area 3) will host Greenville in a doubleheader starting at 4 p.m.

Monday is senior day as well for the Tigers.
