AHS claims shutout

Andalusia shut down Clarke County Thursday night in five innings, winning 10-0 at the Andalusia Sports Complex.
The Lady Bulldogs made an early charge in the game, leading 3-0 at the end of the second inning.
“We played real well,” Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said. “We hit the ball real well. We had great pitching from Abbie Young and Paige Caraway and we had some very timely hits and great base running and I was very pleased with my players.”
Andalusia’s Olivia Dixon scored on an RBI single from Jessica Centner. Centner later scored on a passed ball in the first inning.
In the second inning, Hayley Dorman scored on an error.
The Lady Bulldogs (14-13, 4-1 in Class 4A, Area 3) held Clarke County scoreless for the entire game and earned the No. 2 seed in Area 3 by the game’s end.
Andalusia will vie for the No. 1 seed when it hosts Thomasville Thursday in the final area game of the season. The Lady Bulldogs will host the area tournament on Sat., May 2.
In the fourth inning, Kristen Finley scored on an RBI single from Dixon. Dixon scored on an RBI single from Kenna Edmondson; and Edmondson and Paige Caraway scored on a two-run double by Amy Riley.
In the fifth, the Lady Bulldogs scored three runs when Caraway hit a three-run triple to score Kristin Evans, Townsend and Edmondson.
The Thomasville game next Thursday will start at 4:30 p.m.
The area tournament on Sat., May 2, will start at 9 a.m. at the Andalusia Sports Complex.
