Pleasant Home traveled to Flomaton Thursday and came back with a 12-7 win to add to its successful season.
Kati Reeves singled in the first inning and later scored on an error to put the Lady Eagles up 1-0.
In the second inning, Kaitlynn Brookshire singled with two outs, Kathryn Dozier walked, and Erin Byrd walked before Kayla Woods hit a two-run double to score Brookshire and Dozier.
Reeves stepped to the plate to single in both Byrd and Woods and make the score 5-0.
“We hit a little bit better, but (the team) made a lot of errors and we didn’t play very well defensively,” Pleasant Home coach Jimmy Reeves said. “But, it is nice to see some runs getting scored.”
The Lady Eagles (18-8, 6-0 in Class 1A, Area 3) were coming off a 3-2 win over Straughn on Tuesday night. That was their first win of the season against Straughn.
“I think we played a better game against Straughn than we did (Thursday),” Reeves said. “We just didn’t play our kind of ball (Thursday). We gave up too many runs, but we got all of our young kids a chance to play. We did get a big lead on them and everybody got to bat. We got some good experience for the players that will play next year and the coming years.”
In the third inning, Megan Cook walked, Ariel Gunter singled and Brookshire singled to score Cook.
Erin Byrd later stepped up and hit a two-run double to score Gunter and Brookshire.
Kayla Woods walked and later scored along with Byrd on a two-run single from Reeves.
Before earning the last two runs of the game in the seventh, Reeves said the turning point in the game came three innings before.
“The key of the game was in the (bottom of the) fourth inning,” Reeves said. “We had one out and the bases loaded and it was still very much a game at that point. Emily Byrd came in to relieve Fuller and turned a double play with the bases loaded to get out of that inning. If it wasn’t for that, we would have been in a mess.”
The winning pitcher was Brentin Fuller, who pitched 4.0 innings, allowing four runs, five hits and four walks while striking out three.
Emily Byrd came in to relieve Fuller and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing three runs, three hits and two walks while striking out two.
In the last inning, Dozier singled, Ashley Copeland walked and Robyn Weaver doubled to score Dozier and Copeland to give the Lady Eagles their 12 runs.
