GULF SHORES — Andalusia’s Paige Caraway had 16 strikeouts to help lead her team to a 5-3 win over Jackson Friday at the Class 4A south regional tournament in Gulf Shores.

The Lady Bulldogs took an early lead in the second inning when Kristin Finley hit an RBI single to score Erica Staley.

Andalusia added three more runs in the fourth inning when Samantha Greene hit an RBI single to score courtesy runner Kristin Evans; Ellie Pollock hit an RBI single to score Kelsea Ramirez; and Kenna Edmondson hit an RBI single to score Pollock.

Jackson scored two runs in the fifth to cut Andalusia’s lead in half.

“We just lost focus and had a couple of errors and that made things happen,” Andalusia coach Anthony Mikel said about the fifth inning. “We had a let down toward the middle (of the fifth inning), but we fought back and scored some runs and we played pretty good in the outfield.”

Jackson brought the game to 4-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Bulldogs added an insurance run when courtesy runner Olivia Dixon scored on a sacrifice fly from Amy Caroline Riley.

Caraway allowed four hits and three runs in the win.

Andalusia will play St. James today at the Gulf Shores Sports Complex at 9:30 a.m.
