Covington County advances in 9-10 tournament

On the second day of the 9-to-10-year-old Little League All-Stars district tournament in Opp, Covington County and Brewton earned wins Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals.
Covington County defeated Escambia County, 14-3, and Brewton won over Opp, 8-3.
On Saturday, Andalusia lost to Covington County 20-8 on day one of the tournament.
Covington County 14, Escambia County 3
Cody Robbins and Matt Worley had two hits apiece to help lead their team to an 11-run win over Escambia County.
Covington County scored one run in the first and then grabbed a three-run lead in the second when Jacob Hawkins, Robbins, Brock Hammett and Aaron Warthen scored. Escambia County got on the board by scoring two runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Covington County added four runs in the third inning when Ethan Wilson, Corey Matrullo, Warthen and Campbell Hudson scored. Escambia County’s added one run in the bottom of the inning.
Wilson, Hammett and Hudson scored in the fourth inning; Worley and Matrullo finished the game in the fifth scoring one run apiece.
Garrett Barton, Wilson, Matrullo, Robbins and Hudson all pitched for Covington County in the win.
Brewton 8, Opp 3
The game remained scoreless until the second inning when Brewton added three runs.
Opp scored one run in the third after Brewton added another run.
Brewton added one run to gain a four-run advantage in the fourth inning, and Opp and Brewton added two runs apiece in the fifth inning.
Brewton scored its last run in the sixth inning.
Orlando Lacey, Cody Anderson and Parker Bracke all pitched for Opp during the game.
Covington County 20, Andalusia 8
Covington County scored five runs in the third inning to pull away from Andalusia after scoring one run apiece in the first and second innings.
Andalusia added two runs in the third inning.
In the fourth, Covington County and Andalusia rallied in the fifth, adding five runs apiece.
In the sixth, Covington County’s Campbell Hudson, Ethan Wilson, Corey Matrullo, Cody Robbins, Matt Worley, Allan George, Brock Hammett and Hank Peeples earned one run apiece for their team.
Covington County will play Brewton today at 8 p.m. at the Opp Sportsplex in the semifinals of the district tournament.
