The Andalusia High School alumni football team defeated the Bulldogs Thursday night in the fifth annual alumni football game, 30-15.
“The game was a lot of fun,” AHS alumni quarterback and district court judge Charles A. “Lex” Short said after his team’s win. “(The Bulldogs) have good quick players on their team.
“I’m impressed,” he said. “They have some pretty good size in skill positions.”
The alumni team took an early lead in the first half, making an interception to gain three points.
On the alumni’s first possession of the game, the Bulldogs managed to fight back with an interception of their own to tie the game.
Each team made an interception apiece before the 10-minute mark in the first half, before the first touchdowns were scored.
With seven minutes left in the first, Andalusia’s Kenneth Chambers connected with Jacard Townsend to score the first touchdown for the Bulldogs.
Short said he thinks a good season is in store for the Bulldogs.
“I think they’re going to have a good year,” he said.
The alumni team squeezed one touchdown in at the halfway mark, tying the game at 12 points apiece.
At the start of the second half, the alumni team scored on a 40-yard pass to take their second lead of the game.
For holding the Bulldogs on downs in the second half, the alumni received two points, making it 20-12.
With 11:30 left on the clock, the alumni team scored another touchdown to take over the game.
With that last touchdown, the alumni gained the upper hand and held the Bulldogs once more on downs to add two points to their tally.
Andalusia’s Hiren Patel scored the remaining points for his Bulldogs with an interception.
The alumni secured the win with another interception at the 2:45 mark.
